Call for contributions to the second meeting for WG2 – Collective Intelligences

Rome, Thursday 25th and Friday 26th September.

Dear members of the WG2 – Collective Intelligences,
Following our previous meeting in Porto, we cordially invite you to submit an abstract for a presentation to the forthcoming WG2 – Collective Intelligences meeting in Rome, scheduled for September 25-26, 2025.

The primary focus of this WG meeting will not be on the affective capabilities of generative AI, shift the focus to the power of audiences and visitors to be affected by artistic, cultural and creative work.

Audience Science
The concept of Audience Science empowers visitors and audiences of cultural events and institutions to assume the role of co-researchers, thereby transforming their passive status as objects of research or agents of feedback into active participants in collaborative knowledge production.

The presentation should be approximately 10 minutes in length and should address the following key questions:

  • How can various collective intelligences in the arts and culture, which
employ machine learning and generative algorithms, empower visitors
and audiences to become active participants in collaborative knowledge
    production?
  • Can Artistic and Artificial Intelligence be effectively utilised to transform
the role of visitors and audiences from passive objects of research to
active participants in collaborative knowledge production and aesthetic
    experiences?
  • How can collective intelligences assist in tracking and responding to the
needs of participants, thereby enhancing their overall experience?

Additionally, how can they contribute to registering direct and indirect impacts, preserving cultural diversity, and mitigating biases?

Please submit your proposals for the WG2 leader and the Chair of the Action by 14.08.2025.

Confirmation of travel reimbursement will be provided around mid-August.

The meeting will be held at ABAROMA-Academy of Fine Arts Rome from Thursday, 25th at 10:30 CEST to Friday, 26th in the evening. The meeting will be coordinated with the European Researchers’ Night organised by ABAROMA. A detailed agenda will be distributed after the summer break.

Travel reimbursements will be based on:
a) Individual contributions for the Working Group Meeting, which offer an insight/perspective considered to be particularly relevant for the WG or the Action as a whole.
b) COST Excellence and Inclusiveness Policy: Geographical diversity, career stage (involving young researchers and innovators), and gender balance.

Please note that we are unable to cover all travel expenses. However, we will make every effort to ensure that the Group discussion is accessible remotely. If you are not reimbursed for the WG meeting and can cover travel expenses from your institution, you are welcome to attend in person. Additionally, please inform us if you require an invitation letter to search for funding. We will be pleased to provide it.

We kindly request that you refrain from making any bookings prior to receiving confirmation of acceptance and the invitation from e-COST. Should you have any inquiries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
