Call for contributions to the second meeting for WG1

COST Action Artistic Intelligence (CA23158)
Call for contributions to the second meeting for WG1
Rome, Thursday 25th and Friday 26th September.

To the members of WG1

(On behalf of Catherine Mulligan, WG1 leader)

Dear colleagues and friends

Following our previous meeting in Porto, we invite you to submit an abstract for a presentation to the upcoming WG1 meeting in Rome, 25-26 September 2025.

The presentation should be within a frame of approximately 10 minutes, and should support the development of WG1’s two core outputs:

Roadmap for Test Runs, Simulations, and Feasibility Studies:

We aim to gather examples and insights into how artistic research adapts to digital and algorithmic environments—whether through experimental methods, reconfigurations of artistic process, or hybrid collaborations. Contributions might include case studies, sketches, conceptual outlines, provocations, or reflective practices that map forms of testing or simulating adaptation in situated contexts. We particularly welcome informal formats—not all contributions need to take the form of finished presentations. In-progress thinking and shared challenges are equally valuable.

Artistic Intelligence Toolbox:

This toolbox will provide practical, usable, and open-access resources that help others navigate the evolving landscape of artistic research under digital transformation. We are looking for materials that might inspire or inform others: annotated processes, toolkits, visual or performative guides, workflows, or narrative accounts of adaptation. These can be shared in a variety of media—textual, visual, performative, or digital. Again, polished presentations are not required; we are building collaboratively and value diversity in formats and voices.

The proposals should be sent to the WG1 leader, Catherine Mulligan and the Chair of the Action in cc, Paulo Luís Almeida (emails below).

The deadline for sending the proposals is set for 31.07.2024.

Confirmation of travel reimbursement will be given around mid-August

The meeting will take place at ABAROMA-Academy of Fine Arts Rome, starting on Thursday, 25th at 10:30 CEST and ending on Friday, 26th in the evening. The meeting will be coordinated with the European Researchers' Night organised by ABAROMA.

A detailed agenda will be distributed after the summer.

The travel reimbursements will be based on:

a) The individual contributions for the Working Group Meeting, which offer an insight/perspective considered to be especially relevant for the WG or the Action as a whole.

b) COST Excellence and Inclusiveness Policy: Geographical diversity, career stage (involving young researchers and innovators) and gender balance.

Please take into account that, sadly, we cannot cover everyone’s travel expenses. Still, we will make every effort so that the Group discussion is available remotely.

In case you are not reimbursed for the WG meeting and can cover travel expenses from your own institution, you are very welcome to attend in person. Also, please let us know if you need an invitation letter to search for funding. We’ll be happy to provide it.

We kindly ask you not to make any booking before receiving confirmation of acceptance and the invitation from e-COST.
