Resilient Creativity - A Must, Not a Choice
Resilient Creativity presents creative intelligence as a field-tested capability for doing serious creative work under constraint - where resources are limited, institutions are fragmented, society is structurally divided, and expectations are often low. Drawing on practice and education from a post-conflict society still rebuilding, the talk offers a grounded lens on how creative decisions are made, how trust is built, and how meaning is produced when the system doesn’t help - and argues that resilient creativity is also the work of rebuilding the demand for quality and making outcomes matter again. It invites the Action to define “Artistic Intelligence” in a way that survives contact with reality.
Kenan Zekić is a Bosnia and Herzegovina-based designer, educator, and publishing creative director. In 2023, he founded the INDI+E Association (Innovation, Design + Education) - a small, action-driven association, to push a simple idea: creativity isn’t a lifestyle - it’s a survival skill, especially in high-constraint, post-conflict realities. After years in academia - including a tenured full professorship (2006-2021) - he stepped out by choice to return to the field without leaving education, through mentoring, teaching, and collaboration. His work moves across art and design fields, from publishing and public communication to cultural-heritage projects and community-based initiatives, grounded in resilient creativity - practical methods for doing serious work when the system doesn’t help. Educated in Sarajevo, the UK, and the USA, he has contributed to work and talks across Europe and beyond.
This event is based upon work from COST Action Artistic Intelligence, CA23158, supported by COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology).
COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is a funding agency for research and innovation networks. Our Actions help connect research initiatives across Europe and enable scientists to grow their ideas by sharing them with their peers. This boosts their research, career and innovation.
